Class of 2009 September 4, 2008 Leadership Workshop Sponsor:
First National Bank of Fort Smith Locally Owned Since 1872
With 12 branch locations, 18 ATM locations, and myriad banking services, First National Bank of Fort Smith has come a long way since its first year in 1872.
By 1888, it had outgrown its original small frame building at the corner of Garrison Avenue and Court Streets. The bank then occupied a new brick building at Sixth and Garrison, and then in 1909, after three decades of steady growth, First National Bank of Fort Smith built for the future. It constructed the existing 8-story, white brick First National Building on the corner of Sixth and Garrison.

In 1989, First Bank Corp. was formed as the parent holding company of First National Bank. Since that time, National Bank of Sallisaw, Citizens Bank & Trust in Van Buren, Bank of Rogers, Brown-Hiller-Clark & Associates, and Realty Appraisals have been added to the First Bank Corp. financial family.
Today, First National Bank's products and services include banking, insurance and investment management.
"Our plans for the future are to continue operating as a locally owned financial institution in the Fort Smith Region, while expanding locations into Northwest Arkansas," says Vice President of First National Bank Samuel T. Sicard.
"We sponsor Leadership Fort Smith because we believe that a community is only as strong as its leadership, and we believe that Leadership Fort Smith is an excellent vehicle for our leaders to make a difference in our community," says Sicard, a Leadership Fort Smith alumnus who was a member of the Class of 2002. "It helps our leaders become more aware of our community's strengths and weaknesses, positions them to act as an ambassador for our community and its strengths, and also gives them the opportunity to use their abilities and passions to improve on our weaknesses."
The Leadership Workshop helped the Class of 2009 to:
gain insight into their own personalities and leadership styles,
examine their perceptions and paradigms, and
examine how their values impact their roles as leaders.
Leadership Fort Smith thanks First National Bank of Fort Smith for its long-time support as an annual session sponsor.
